Los Altos Ranch Renewed
The renovation of Los Altos Ranch turned a dark and compartmentalized ranch style home into a light-filled modern dwelling with a number of sustainable elements. Opening the rooms up by lifting the ceilings and adding skylights to flood the interior with daylight let in the warmth that had been missing in the existing home. Throughout the renovation, framing lumber and insulation were reused; where supplemental insulation was needed, recycled denim was used. Additional windows and expansion into the rear yard allow a new dialogue with the outdoor space - a particular concern to the clients which allows them to fully appreciate the existing oak tree as well as the extensive drought tolerant landscaping added to the patio. Over-sized glass doors and translucent interior panels create light-filled spaces, reducing the reliance on artificial light.
