Henry House

For the Henry House, a small attic within an old Arts & Crafts home was expanded to create a master bedroom suite and home office. Because of limited headroom under the steep roof of the existing house, the attic walls were extended and the roof pitch flattened.  Skylights and windows were added to create a dramatic, light-filled space for the client who is a landscape designer.  Thin steel tie-rods replaced heavier wood beams and were left exposed to create an open volume with clean lines. A small roof deck was constructed with planters containing bamboo and glass rails to open up to views of the city below.
