Casa Onda
Casa Onda, or Wave House, is located outside Lisbon on the seaside. This home for a British family, who recently relocated from Barcelona, takes its name from both the repeated wave forms of its sculptural, curved concrete roofs designed to scoop in light, as well as its perch above one of the best surf spots in Europe. The house is divided into a series of crossing and intersecting bars that step down the sloped hillside and project into the landscape to form intersecting courtyards and create plays of light. These bars group the house into three pavilions: communal spaces, sleeping spaces, and a flexible pool house that will serve as a studio/home office as well as a guest suite for the family's visitors from London. Casa Onda's innovative design contrasts refined materials of glass, steel concrete, and engineered wood panels with rough natural stone, weathered wood, and rusted steel. The final result: a modern house with clean lines and crisp details that also blends into the landscape with a natural, casual yet durable feel. The house features planted roofs, solar panels, and a water catchment system.Close
